WELCOME TO BORDEN'S ORCHARD
About Our Family Farm At present our farm consists of 776 acres located in the town of Easton in Washington County New York and is owned by a closed family corporation known as O.A. Borden & Sons, Inc. The first parcel of land, 23 acres, was purchased by Smith Borden in 1837. Since then each generation has added to the farm, which is now believed to be made up of some 16 parcels of land. Oscar A., the "O.A." of our corporate name, was the fourth generation owner. Currently the fifth and sixth generations are operating the farm. In our orchards, we grow 30 different apple varieties, 5 pear varieties, some cherries, and some plums on 20 acres with over 1900 trees. Old apple favorites include Northern Spy, Pound Sweet, and R.I. Greening. Some of our trees are over 50 years old. New varieties include Paulared, Redfree, Empire, and Gala. Our cider is made on our own mill in the back section of the store. Our cold-air storage facility can hold up to 8,500 bushels and allows us to offer fruit until at least March and often later! We often have cherries, both sweet and sour, in early July and Stanley plums about Labor Day. In our store we also offer other local farm products such as potatoes, honey, maple syrup and maple candy. Other products offered include New York State cheese, New York peaches and nectarines (in season), no-sugar jams, and hard-to-find jams and jellies. We also have a dairy farm with 360 cropped acres and 166 milking cows. We have a rotary milking parlor, which you are invited to see in operation (from an observation deck) daily from 4:15 PM to 5:45 PM. There are presently 10 Bordens involved in our farm operation to some extent, five full-time and five part-time, as well as several neighbors and friends. We hope you enjoy the "fruits of our labor".
